You may be thinking to yourself, “I wash my makeup off every night. I have my own skincare routine, but my skin is just impossible!” Yes, those are important first steps to achieving spotless skin, but we often forget to pay close attention to our environments when it comes to skincare. They are often riddled with dirt and bacteria, which can easily get stuck in our pores and spread quickly to surrounding areas. If you’ve got spot-prone skin, it is so important to be conscious of what your skin is being exposed to throughout the day.
So, how can you get clean, spotless skin?
Washing/changing your pillowcase often
We’re all guilty of forgetting to change our sheets sometimes, but this can have visible consequences for spot-prone skin. Experts suggest changing bed linens once a week, but when it comes to pillowcases, once a week won’t cut it. Although it might seem extreme, your pillowcases should be changed as often as possible - daily washes are ideal but may not be practical with a busy schedule. Try to change them every few days, and see the immediate benefits. To go the extra mile to protect your skin’s health, try using silk pillowcases. The natural fibers are resistant towards dirt and bacteria build up and also prevent clogged pores.
Wipe down your phone!
Wipe it down every night to get rid of bacteria. This may seem like a tedious task, but your phone is continuously in contact with the skin on your face. Attention to small details like this will bring you one step closer to spotless skin. Alternatively, it might be a good idea to regularly change and clean your phone case to make sure there’s no residual dirt or bacteria hiding in bumps and cracks.
Sleep with your hair up
This final tip is an easy one - sleep with your hair up! Simply keeping your hair away from your face while you sleep can make a big difference in your skin. This is especially true if you regularly use hair products. Your hair attracts an enormous amount of pollution and dirt, which can make its way onto your pillow and cause breakouts (see our first tip!). If you’re experiencing T-zone and cheek spots, tying back your hair in a loose bun or braid could be a game-changer. This little trick is a no-brainer.
Facemasks
Facemasks top off any skincare routine and can help you get the glowing skin you deserve. Try adding our Dutch Dirt Mask to your skincare routine and let it work its magic. Loaded up with naturally moisturizing and cleansing ingredients (not to mention the power of Dutch tulips), this face mask will help you fight those stubborn spot clusters and leave your skin baby soft. For those of you with dry skin, try using the mask for 10 minutes or as an exfoliating face wash!
These simple steps are sure to push you in the right direction. Spotless skin here we come!
