You may know Christa B. Allen as the young Jennifer Garner in the 2004 movie classic ‘13 Going on 30’ or Charlotte Grayson on the extremely popular ABC drama ‘Revenge’, or maybe you know her on Instagram as the aerialist and clean skincare sage. No matter how you know Christa B. Allen we’re sure that you love her- it’s almost impossible not to. We love Christa for her advocacy for clean, natural beauty and skincare and of course, for loving Bloomeffects almost as much as we do.
We had the pleasure of getting to ask Christa some fun questions about her skincare, her grocery list and what inspires her! We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
What do you love most about your skin/what type of skin do you have?
I have oily skin. I have been told all my life that this is a blessing, because oily skin wrinkles less. I’ve always been skeptical of the concept but I have to say, as I age, I am definitely embracing it. It helps that *glowing* skin is very in!
If you were stuck on an island and could bring only 3 skincare items with you, which would they be and why?
I would bring a dry brush to exfoliate with, the biggest jar of moisturizer I could find, and my fragrance, Rose 31 by Le Labo, to stay in good spirits.
You’re doing your weekly grocery shop, what’s in your basket?
A big loaf of Tartine bread, lots of fresh produce (avocados, sweet potatoes, collard greens, Brussel sprouts, bok choy, asparagus, garlic, papaya, blueberries are some of my favorites) and a pint of Salt & Straw cookie dough ice cream because life is about balance.
What is your best skincare hack?
Avocado oil as oil cleanser. Removes all makeup and leaves your skin so soft!
What excites you most about Bloomeffects?
I am intrigued in general by peptides and all of their applications. The peptides in Bloomeffects products help to stimulate collagen, which is amazing!
If you could teleport to a different time/era, which time/era would it be and why?
I’d love to experience 30 or 40 years in the future. I can’t wait to see all of the ways technology helps to solve humanity’s problems.
Describe your go-to night time skincare routine.
It’s important to me to be incredibly thorough when cleansing. I usually start with an oil cleanser to remove makeup, then the cleanser that I use next will be something I choose depending on my skin’s current condition; either something exfoliating or more gentle and nourishing. Then I will apply either a serum or a treatment, then eye cream and moisturizer. I keep it pretty simple these days - as I try so many different products, I like to use only one active product at a time so I can tell what really works!
If you could go back to your 16 year old self and give them any advice at all, what would it be?
I would tell my 16 year old self that it gets easier. Being 16 can be hard and stressful and confusing! I’d have given 16 year old me meditation courses, because I did not deal with stress well.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever received, period?
Every lesson I’ve learned from stoicism has guided me on the right path.
Bonus questions
What are you reading/watching/listening to at the moment?
I’m obsessed with Tik Tok. It makes me smile and dance around the house and be silly, which is definitely NOT how Instagram makes me feel. I watched “Love is Blind” on Netflix and that was pure gold, it’s gotten me into reality TV a bit which I’ve never been a fan of… anyway everything’s changed and now I’m 2 seasons deep into “Love Island.” It’s brilliant!
What’s been the most pivotal moment in your life that’s gotten you to where you are today?
Looking back on my life, the most pivotal moments were the ones that were the most difficult to live through. Heartbreak after a terrible relationship, financial struggles, difficult work situations. They have all taught me so much, and I am so grateful for the growth. I pray that we will find some silver lining from this difficult time and all of humanity will experience growth, together.
