Having hydrated and supple skin isn’t as easy as just lathering on your favorite moisturizer and hoping for the best! Follow our 4 step guide for healthier, hydrated skin.
Stay Hydrated
Healthy skin starts from the inside out! We all know drinking plenty of water is essential for our overall health, but it’s essential for healthy skin as well. The Institute of Medicine recommends drinking 2.7 liters (91 ounces) a day for women and 3.7 liters (125 ounces) a day for men. Drinking enough water can help maintain optimum skin moisture leading to healthier, hydrated skin. It can even help improve skin conditions such as acne and eczema, and is a great way to prevent wrinkles. TOP TIP: we recommend getting a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated to avoid single-use plastic. Your body, skin, and the planet will thank you!
Prep Your Skin
Prepping your skin is more important than you think for optimizing the efficacy of your favorite moisturizer. The perfect prep includes both cleansing and exfoliating.
Cleansing helps to remove makeup, dirt, and oil for a clean and fresh complexion. We love our Royal Tulip Cleansing Jelly as it melts away makeup without stripping the skin, leaving it soft and hydrated. If you’re a makeup wearer, we recommend double cleansing- once to remove makeup, and a second time to remove dirt and oil.
Exfoliating is another important step in prepping your skin. It’s best to exfoliate 2-3 days a week depending on your skin type. Not only does it get rid of dead skin cells for a smoother, softer complexion, but it will also help your moisturizer penetrate deeper into the skin. We love our Dutch Dirt Mask for this because it contains ingredients such as Prickly Pear Enzyme and Flower Acid to help eliminate dead skin cells. Plus, it can be used as a scrub when you don’t have time to mask or just want a gentler exfoliation.
Moisturize
Now that you’ve prepped your skin, you’re ready to moisturize. It's important to find a moisturizer that works with your skin type. For drier skin types, overnight treatments such as our Royal Tulip Nectar are a great option. It’s packed with hydrating ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and, of course, our Proprietary Dutch Tulip Complex which is rich in antioxidants, natural moisturizing factors, and amino acids. You only need less than a pea-sized amount to cover the whole face at night and to wake up with glowing and hydrated skin!
Get a Good Night's Sleep
Sleep is another one of those things we know is essential for our health, but is essential for our skin as well! During sleep, your body delivers fluids to organs and tissues that need
replenishing, while removing excess fluids from other areas. Lack of sleep leads to increased inflammation levels and stress hormones which can aggravate skin leading to dehydration, or skin problems like acne. Aim for at least 8 hours of sleep each night- your skin will look better and you’ll feel better too!
